End Game/Season End Ideas and Discussion

I'm actually a bit curious as to what all will happen once a faction reaches the goal of obtaining the dark matter before the other. I know that territories will be reset, but what else?

I'm hoping for a couple of things, honestly. One is to have the ability to switch factions at the start of a new season. It would be fun to try out both sides each time, making the game have longer replay value. Choosing Variant one season and then Paladin for the next would be a fun way to keep things fresh.

The other thing I kind of hope for is that all ranks are reset at the start of each season. It would keep people playing to obtain their ranks and weapons for the war once again and give even more of a fresh start. I know there are people that wouldn't like the idea, but starting off a new season with everything already unlocked would put a dampener on somethings.

These are just my thoughts on the subject, but I'm curious if anyone else likes the idea. I think regaining ranks would be fun, honestly. Especially since you can get it all back within a few days of regular play time.

I would agree for the most part.
Replay-ability is one of the hardest things to accomplish and come by in the gaming industry.
Resetting the Ranks and Weapons would be a great start to overcoming this seemingly impossible goal.

Being able to change factions would also spark some excitement about the game.
Although i"m not so sure that the majority would rule on this particular subject.
As for me, I have an 11 year old who gripes at me every day about how come I didn't choose the VARIANTS.
So I'm sure he would be excited to be able to switch at the start of a new season.

I agree. The fact that ranks would reset and manage to reacquire unlocks would give incentive to join either faction an equal amount. It would also make each season fresh and exciting. At least, I think it would. I know there are people that won't see eye to eye on this, but it's just my take on it. I've very interested in reading about what others think as well. Other ideas to bring in or more.

So...do you have any ideas or discussion for the season end? Not meaning any offense, I just don't really understand your post.

Hrmm... A rank reset would be a good idea, that way any new players won't be waaaaay behind, gearwise. I do think it'd be nice to be able to choose 3 weapons to have as "starting weapons" when the world resets. Thing is, I think this may put some people off (dedicated CoD players for example), so the complete restart mechanic would have to be fully explained in the intro/tutorial section.

Honestly, I find that ranking up goes fast in this game, so it wouldn't be too much of an issue for me. On the other hand, there are people who cannot play often, or for more than an hour or two on the weekends and they would end up falling behind. Hrmm... maybe if there were some sort of a happy middle? If you don't max out your rank, then you can start the next season somewhat ahead.

Faction swapping is going to be in the final release. The option is in one of the menus in the beta build, but has been disabled. I think that each season reset will see players re-choosing their factions. This is only a theory mind. It's also been mentioned that there will be ways to swap sides mid-season as well. The option may only open up if there's a serious imbalance though. The way that mid-season faction swaps work hasn't been detailed yet.
    When in doubt, use fire.

I have a feeling that after release it might get quite a bit busier so seasons might end faster if they keep it at the 110 goal of dark matter. Perhaps an even ground to justify the rank resetting could be raising the dark matter requirements for each faction? Instead of 110, make it 200 or so. It got over half of the 100 in just the beta's time with the limited amount of players. That way, those who can't play often are still given time and won't always been having choose factions and such.

    To the quote: What?

On Topic: A stellar idea. I will propose a small system tweak to further this. For every X number of levels gained during one season, the player is allowed to retain +1 rank at the start of the next season. So, to give an example - I begin at level 1 and play through the first season, reaching level Y. If I earned X number of levels while getting to level Y, I begin the next season at level 2. Rinse and repeat. However, if I DO NOT earn X number of levels by the end of a season, I am not permitted to retain +1, and as a result start at the same level I had at the end of the last season.

An issue occurs here. What happens once a player nears the level cap? He won't be able to earn X number of levels in order to retain +1, so what then? The answer is to add an exception to the rule. The exception is: upon reaching the level cap, the player is allowed to retain +1. Therefore, if said player can only earn 3 levels before capping during a season, he is still allowed +1. Perhaps another exception as well. If the player earns X number of required levels, AND caps, he is permitted +2 at the start of the next season. Possibilities.
